How to Generate/Download a Full Backup

A full backup is a backup of all of your website files, emails, email addresses, databases etc.

Once initiated, you will need to allow the backup time to perform. The server will send you an email once the backup is completed and ready to be downloaded.

The steps for generating, downloading and restoring a full backup are explained in detail below.

How to Generate a Full Backup in cPanel

To generate a full backup in cPanel:
  1. Log into cPanel.
  2. In the Files section, click on the Backups icon.
  3. Under Full Backup, click the Download or Generate a Full Website Backup button.
  4. On the next page, select the Home Directory option from the Backup Destination drop-down menu.
  5. Enter the email address where the back up email notification will be sent, once the backup is complete.
  6. Click Generate Backup.

This will generate the back up for you and place the tar.gz file inside of your home directory. You can then download the backup via cPanel or FTP.

How to Download the Full Backup

To download the backup from cPanel:
  1. Log into cPanel.
  2. In the Files section, click on the Backups icon.
  3. Under Full Backup, click Generate/ Download a Full Website Backup.
  4. Under Backups Available for Download, click the link for the backup file you wish to download.
  5. Select a destination on your PC where you would like to save the backup.
